What is an Xtreme Cowboy event?

  • The ONTARIO XTREME COWBOY (OXC) is an event that challenges both horse and rider to maneuver through a series of trail & farm-based obstacles demonstrating both horsemanship and speed.

 

Does my horse need to have specialized training?

  • No. Horses of all breeds with little or no specialized training are encouraged to participate. Two of the primary purposes of the sport are to have fun with your horse while improving your horsemanship.

 

Are there OXC clothing or tack requirements?

  • Traditional Western attire or Australian Stock attire is required. All tack must be traditional Western or Australian unless stated differently for a specific event.

 

Where can I find the rules?

  • OXC is an affliate of EXCA. We follow their rules for all EXCA sanctioned events.

Are all OXC courses the same?

  • No, the courses will be different at every event. The obstacles, terrain and length of the courses will vary.

 

What does an OXC membership cost?

  • 2017 Adult Membership: $30.00
  • 2017 Junior Membership: $10.00
    (Junior Membership is 18 and Under as of January 1st of membership year)
  • 2017 Family Membership: $50.00
    (Family Membership consists of 2 Adult Membership and any number of Junior Memberships, living in the home)

How is an OXC Event scored?

  • A score is given for each obstacle on the course. A score is also given for overall horsemanship and speed.
  • Each obstacle consists of 3 components:  the Approach to the obstacle, the Obstacle itself and the Departure from the obstacle.

Can I have an OXC Event at my facility?

  • Yes. Once you have joined OXC, you may host a sanctioned event. 
    Contact one of the OXC Directors for more information.

 

What is an OXC Rookie Race?

  • OXC successfully held their first official 'Rookie Race' in 2015. 
    The 2016 OXC Rookie Series
    was developed as place for those who want to improve their horsemanship and obstacle skills at an introductory competitive level.
    In 2016 there were 6 Rookie Race divisions for horses and riders to choose from.
    2017 season will offer 8 divisions at the OXC Rookie Racing level.

What Divisions are offered at OXC Events?

  • For 2017 OXC is offering all 8 EXCA Divisions at EXCA sanctioned events. These are:
    Young Guns / Youth / Green Horse / Novice / Intermediate / Non-Pro / Ride Smart / Pro
